Greenwood Genetic Lab recently visited our 8th-grade students at Newberry Middle School, providing an engaging, hands-on learning experience in genetics!
During the lab, students explored how scientists use specialized tools and techniques to solve genetic mysteries. Through interactive activities, they investigated the genetic determination of calico cats using karyotype analysis and gel electrophoresis. This real-world application of science allowed students to deepen their understanding of genetic concepts while actively engaging in authentic scientific practices.
Experiences like this not only strengthen students’ content knowledge but also spark curiosity and inspire interest in STEM-related fields.

The 11th Annual District Art Show reception will be held Thursday, March 26 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Newberry Arts Center at 1716 Main St. Newberry. Public viewing runs from March 26-April 14. Hours: Monday-Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday March 28 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
