Jennifer Brown - NMS Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Jennifer Brown - Newberry Middle School Teacher of the Year!

"As a product of Newberry County, I find it an honor to sew back into the community that sewed so heavily into me!

"I did not enter the field traditionally, but through the PACE program. I am thankful for an opportunity for alternative routes in education. I believe it has made a profound difference in the perspective I bring to the field."

HOMETOWN: Whitmire

HIGH SCHOOL: Whitmire High School

COLLEGE: USC - Upstate

YEARS IN EDUCATION: 6

FAVORITE BOOK: Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado

HOBBIES: I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and being involved with my church.

IF I WEREN’T A TEACHER, I WOULD... most likely be a lawyer because I enjoy advocating for others.

FAVORITE TEACHER: Mrs. Kim Hamilton was my science teacher, mentor, and volleyball/basketball coach. She guided me inside and outside of the classroom to help shape me into a well-rounded student. She helped reinforce important concepts and life lessons that taught me the importance of discipline and perseverance.

MEMORABLE MOMENT: My most memorable moment in my teaching career took place while working registration for the 23-24 school year. One of my former students came to my station to thank me for the way I celebrated him as a student. He said he was so impressed that I took time to learn and sing the happy birthday song in his native tongue. I never knew the impact this had on him until this very moment. His gratitude was very sincere and reminded me that the little things really do make a difference.
