October Bully Prevention Month

Mid-Carolina High School (MCHS) dedicated the month of October to fostering a culture of kindness and respect through various activities centered around Bullying Prevention Month. Our efforts aimed to both raise awareness about bullying and actively encourage positive actions among our students, staff, and faculty.

Weekly Focus and Awareness

Throughout October, every Monday served as a special focus day, engaging students in a variety of mini-lessons, activities, and simple theme days. Daily morning announcements provided continuous education, with themes dedicated to:

  • Defining and Understanding Bullying: Students learned about bullying in schools and wore "I support World Day of Bullying Prevention" badges.

  • The Power of the Bystander: This week encouraged students to speak up, culminating in an Anti-bullying Poster Contest where students created posters and teachers voted on the winners.

  • Cyberbullying and Social Media: This section addressed digital safety. Students participated in creating video clips using phrases like, "See something, say something" and "#RebelsRespect". This week also featured the wearing of orange for Unity Day, complete with a photo booth to capture the spirit of unity.

  • Building Respect and Action: The final week focused on putting positive behaviors into practice.

The 5-Day Acts of Kindness Challenge

The month finished strong with a 5-Day Acts of Kindness Challenge designed to make kindness a daily habit. Students were encouraged to participate in a series of simple, yet impactful actions:

  • Compliment Day: Teachers and staff distributed sticky notes during the morning cafe time for students to write and give compliments to others.

  • "Mix it Up": Students were encouraged to include someone new in their social circles.

  • Gratitude Day: Students were given the opportunity to leave notes of thanks in the cafe area.

  • Random Acts of Kindness Day: Students received a small checklist of simple acts to complete throughout the day.

  • Unity & Pledge Day: Students created and signed a "We Stand Against Bullying At Mid-Carolina" banner during lunch, coupled with a photo opportunity to cement their commitment.

The month concluded on a fun note with a "Boo Out Bullying" theme, encouraging students to dress up in school-appropriate costumes.

MCHS is proud of the participation in this year's Bullying Prevention Month and will continue to encourage these vital messages of empathy and respect throughout the school year!
